Incorporated 7th June 1815 as "Company of Proprietors of Sheffield Canal". Company was transferred to Manchester Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway Company under Sheffield Canal Purchase Act of 1848, but was again transferred to River Dun Navigation Company by Sheffield Canal Transfer Act of 28th July 1849.
