Incorporated by special Act 17th June 1878 (41 Vic, cap.71). London, Brighton and South Coast Railway Company subscribed capital towards undertaking. Previously under act of 6th August 1872, a company was incorporated - "Continental Communication - Newhaven and Dieppe" - to construct certain works. New Company, Newhaven Harbour Company, was incorporated under 1878 Act above mentioned to effect improvements at Newhaven. By act of 1926, Newhaven Harbour Company was acquired by Southern Railway Company as from 1st July 1926.
