Crime: Convicted on the oath of William Henry Attwood, Overseer of the Poor, Stockbridge, Southampton [Hampshire] for refusing to work so making his family chargeable to the parish also sending an improper letter to the governor.
Initial sentence: One month's hard labour.
Annotated: Remission prepared 29 May 1829.
Correspondence: A letter from Richard Bethel Cox and Robert Wright, Justices, to the Constable of Stockbridge and the Keeper of Winchester Bridewell commanding them to deliver Hopkins to the Bridewell. Two letters from Robert Wright, Visiting Magistrate, giving details of the case and asking for a discharge for the prisoner in the County Bridewell at Winchester because of 'afflicting circumstances' in his family.
