Petitioner(s): John Moore Robinson of Leicester, Attorney at Law for Galley. John French of Mosborough, Derbyshire, the convict's uncle, also signed by C G Munday, magistrate, with six character references for John French. John French of Eckington [Derbyshire], with six character references, also signed by Mr Parker MP for Sheffield [Yorkshire, West Riding].
Grounds for clemency: Galley's attorney expected a more lenient sentence as he gave evidence which was instrumental in getting John Pilkinton (or John Pilkington) of Loughborough [Leicestershire], a receiver of stolen goods, convicted and sentenced to 14 years' transportation and Hinton to be executed; the Attorney was surprised to discover that Galley was being moved from Leicester to be transported for life; Galley has an uncle in Mosborough who would 'take and provide for him' as Galley is his nearest relative and heir; previous good character; led astray by two 'designing men' when he went to London; he has not long been an offender; has conducted himself with propriety in Botany Bay; his uncle is infirm and wants to get his nephew settled.
