Prisoner name: John Goodman.
Court and date of trial: Northampton Lent Assizes [Northamptonshire] 1828.
Crime: Maliciously shooting Henry Blundell.
Initial sentence: Death - day of execution 21 March 1828.
Annotated: Respited, pardon prepared 21 April 1828.
Petitioner(s): The convict and eight people.
Grounds for clemency: They were attacked by the gamekeeper when in pursuit of game on Robert Andrews' land; he did not realise what he had done; has a wife and two children; gave information about two associates.
Other papers: A letter from Mr Justice William Alexander supporting the petition; he feels he should sentence consistently whether poacher or gamekeeper does the shooting. Note confirming respite from Peel.
