Description

Prisoner name: John Francomb.

Prisoner occupation: Labourer.

Court and date of trial: Somerset Lent Assizes at Taunton on 29 March 1828.

Crime: Stealing an ox, property of James Coombs.

Initial sentence: Death commuted to transportation for 14 years.

Annotated: Nil 7 May 1828.

Petitioner(s): The convict, with a certificate of good character signed by 15 people of Gloucestershire and Somerset.

Grounds for clemency: Honest sober industrious character; supported wife and family; acted in an unguarded moment; destitute at time of offence.

Additional Information: The convict is from Clevedon, Somerset. He was held in the House of Correction at Shepton Mallet, Somerset.
