Prisoner name: John Dethick.

Prisoner occupation: Mattress maker.

Court and date of trial: Nottingham Town Lent Assizes [Nottinghamshire] 1828.

Crime: Forgery - uttering a forged cheque value 13s 6d to defraud Frederick Hepworth, draper.

Initial sentence: [Not stated] commuted to 12 months imprisonment.

Petitioner(s): Frederick Hepworth, prosecutor and 84 people of Nottingham.

Grounds for clemency: Previously found honest in business dealings; cheque left as payment for pre-existing debt not to obtain further goods; wife and three young children.
