Recommendation for the mitigation of sentence for selected prisoners on board Discovery hulk.
Convict details: John Carter, aged 30, convicted at Ely [Cambridgeshire] on 17 February 1823 of stealing beans.
Convict details: Richard Curtis, aged 20, convicted at Worcester [Worcestershire] on 3 March 1823 of stealing linen.
Convict details: Thomas Wilson, aged 29, convicted at Appleby on 5 March 1823 of street robbery.
Convict details: Joseph Price, aged 32, convicted at Warwick [Warwickshire] on 5 April 1823 of stealing a watch.
All sentenced to seven years' transportation.
Recommendation submitted by: [Illegible] Commander and D Jones, Chaplain. Recommended by John H Capper, Superintendent.
Grounds for clemency: The convicts have served more than half of their sentence and shown quiet, orderly and good conduct on board; recommended by the Commander and principal officers of the hulk.
Annotated: Free pardon prepared February 1827.
Other papers: A letter from D Cresswell, D D of Vicarage House, Enfield [Middlesex] supporting Carter's release.
