First Act obtained 30th April 1793 (33 Geo III, cap.80), forming "Company of Proprietors of Grand Junction Canal". Registered 1845, under Joint Stock companies Act 1844.

Various Acts passed, dealing with raising of capital and levying of rates and charges. Acquired undertakings of Grand Union Canal Company, and Leicestershire and Northamptonshire Union Canal Company, in 1894.

Canal undertaking was sold, as from 1st January 1929, to newly incorporated Grand Union Canal Company, other part of undertaking remaining as separate Company by name Grand Junction Company Limited.
