Incorporated by act of 3rd June 1793 (cap.110) as "Company of Proprietors of Barnsley Canal Navigation".
Under Barnsley Canal Transfer Act 1871, Navigation was to be sold to Aire & Calder Navigation at expiration of term of existing lease of Canal. Last meeting of General Assembly of Proprietors' of Barnsley Canal Navigation took place on 17th July 1875. At directors' meeting of Aire & Calder Navigation held on 30th December 1875, it was reported (Minute No. 1115) that completion of purchase of Barnsley Canal took place on 30th November 1875. Last meeting of Sub-Committee of Barnsley Canal took place on 7th December 1876.
