The National Association of Coke and By-Product Plant Owners was formed by district associations and individual owners in 1919, with the object of promoting the plant owners' interests 'throughout the Kingdom' and advising 'as to the protection and defence........against........strikes or other action........agreements with workpeople........legislation........'. The Association was wound up in October 1943.
The British Hard Coke Association was constituted on 1 August 1941, aiming 'to appoint a Director, with a view to his also being appointed Coke Supplies Officer by His Majesty's Government', and 'to provide an organisation......for the purpose of advising and assisting the Coke Supplies Officer in the exercise of his powers'. On the 18 July 1945 the name was changed to British Coking Industry Association. The Association was wound up in September 1966.
The Joint Coke Quality Committee was a liaison organisation between the producers (represented by the British Coking Industry Association) and the consumers (represented by the British Iron and Steel Federation) of coke. The Joint Coke Consultative Committee had a similar function.
The British Coke Export Sales Association was constituted in June 1937 and wound up on 31 March 1956. It would seem to be the forerunner of the British Coke Export Joint Committee which came into existence in June 1956, the members being the British Coking Industry Association and the Gas Council. A corporate body known as British Coke Export Sale Corporation Limited acted for and on behalf of the Committee.
