Incorporated under act of 11th July 1861, and constructed in 1866. Line was worked by Great Eastern Railway and Act of 9 June 1893 confirmed purchase by that company. Great Eastern Railway Company became part of London & North Eastern Railway Company from 1st January 1923 under North Eastern, Eastern & East Scottish Group Amalgamation Scheme 1922 dated 30th December 1922.
