Incorporated by act of 30th June 1862.
By agreement for lease, dated 18th March 1862 and confirmed by act of incorporation, line was worked by Great Western and London and South Western railway companies jointly. Weymouth and Portland Railway Company passed to British Transport Commission under Transport Act 1947.
