Incorporated by act of 17th August 1857. Line was worked and leased by Bristol and Exeter Railway Company. Subsequently it was worked and leased by Great Western Railway Company under Bristol and Exeter Railway Act of 8th June 1863. Company was absorbed into Great Western Railway Company as from 1st July 1922 under Great Western Railway (Western Group) Preliminary Absorption Scheme (No.2) 24th July 1922.
