Incorporated by act of 4th August 1853. Under act of 10th August 1857, company was authorised to enter into working arrangements with London and South Western, London, Brighton and South Coast and South Eastern railway companies. Company was eventually taken over by London, Brighton and South Coast Railway Company, purchase money for line between Norwood and Bromley being paid in January 1864. London, Brighton and South Coast Railway Company became part of Southern Railway Company under Railways (Southern Group) Amalgamation Scheme 1922 dated 22nd December 1922.
