Incorporated by act of 24th July 1854. Line was used and worked by Norfolk Railway and interest and dividends guaranteed by that Company under terms of Wells and Fakenlam Acts 1854 and 1859, powers of Norfolk Railway being exercised by Eastern Counties Railway Company under agreement on which 1854 Act was founded.

Wells and Fakenham Railway Company became part of Great Eastern Railway Company under act of 7th August 1862 as from 1st September 1862. Great Eastern Railway Company became part of London and North Eastern Railway Company from 1st January 1923 under North Eastern, Eastern and East Scottish Group Amalgamation Scheme 1922 dated 30th December 1922.
