Vale of Towy Railway Company was incorporated by act of 10th August 1854, but by Vale of Towy Leasing Act 1868 (and agreement of 25th June 1868) it was leased as from 1st April 1868 to Knighton, Central Wales, and Central Wales Extension Railways and Llanelly Railway and Dock companies. Company was vested in London and North Western Railway Company as from 1st July 1884 by Clause 70 of London and North Western Railway Act of 28th July 1884, but Llanelly Company retained power to lease under Vale of Towy (Leasing) Act of 2nd August 1858. Llanelly Company was amalgamated with Great Western Railway Company as from 1st July 1889 by Great Western and Llanelly Railway and Dock companies Amalgamation Act of 24th June 1889.
By Minute No. 5320 of London and North Western and Great Western Railways Joint Committee of 7th June 1889, Vale of Towy Joint Committee was merged in London and North Western and Great Western Railways Joint Committee. This committee became London Midland and Scottish and Great Western Railways Joint Committee and ceased on 1st January 1948 on nationalisation of railways under Transport Act 1947.
