Incorporated by act of 22nd July 1861. Under act of 12th July 1882, company was dissolved and vested in Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway Company, latter Company being only shareholders in Trent, Ancholme and Grimsby Railway Co. Name of Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway Company was changed from 1st August 1897 to Great Central Railway Company by virtue of Great Central Railway Act of 3rd June 1897. Great Central Railway Company was vested in London and North Eastern Railway Company from 1st January 1923 by virtue of North Eastern, Eastern and East Scottish Group Amalgamation Scheme 1922 dated 30th December 1922.
