Folios 246-247: Robert Pettet, HMS Briseis, Yarmouth Roads. Reports that William Steward Able Seaman on HMS Briseis did on the night of Wednesday 7 September 1808 swim from her when lying at the Great Nore and reached the Jane Collier. Her Captain (Thomas Rickaby) made enquiry but did not send him back and took him from the Nore to Chatham. When Mr Cowley Midshipman (a youngster) saw him at Mears Coal Wharf the said Thomas Rickaby and two or three others belonging to the Brig did their utmost and rescued him from the Midshipman. Request the usual penalty be extracted from Thomas Rickaby.
