Folios 495-496: Home Riggs Popham, HMS Prince of Wales, off Copenhagen. Receipt of letter of 13 [August 1807] asking how the 12 chests of treasure saved from the wreck of the Britannia and delivered to the 1st Lieutenant of HMS Diadem were disposed of. He believes that one chest was given to Captain Birch to supply the Officers and recompense the people according to a proportion given by the Commander of the Company's ships. The 11 other chests were given to the Agent Victuallers at the Cape of Good Hope. States where he believes the copies of accounts were sent. He believes that in the account of the Agent Victualler in February or March 1786 credit is given for the amount and very likely receipts are transmitted.
