Description

Folios 424-425: John Phillimore, HMS Bellette, Harwich. Reports his arrival. They sailed from Copenhagen on 9 [September 1807] and brought over Captain Collier with dispatches from Admiral Gambier, Lieutenant Cathcart with dispatches from Lord Cathcart, Brook Taylor and his suite, and Mr Smith the Messenger with dispatches from Lord Gower at Petersburgh to the Secretary of Foreign Affairs. HMS Surly sailed the Friday before them from Coepnhagen and they passed her at sea last Friday and believe she put in to Gottenburgh because of the heavy gales in the Gallegat. Sends a copy of his order and log [not rpesent].

Folios 426-427: enclosure with folios 424-425. Order dated 8 September 1807 from James Gambier, Admiral of the Blue, given on board HMS Prince of Wales off Copenhagen, to Captain J Phillimore, HMS Bellette, signed by command of the Admiral by Jos Trounsell. Directs him to receive Captain Collier and Lieutenant Frederick Cathcart on board together with Brook Taylor, late Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary at the Court of Denmark and his suite and a King's Messenger and proceed to the first port he can make in England and there report to the Admiralty.
