Folios 359-360: Charles Vinicombe Penrose, Sea Fencibles, Padstow. On 2 [February 1807] the Susan cutter, Master Anthony Rowland, anchored off New Quay [Newquay], one of the stations under his command, and landed 8 French prisoners and left immediately. The Frenchmen say they were part of the crew of the Speculator, a French lugger privateer, and had been put on board a merchant ship whose name they did not know which had been recaptured by the Susan and sent to Mevagissey. Lieutenant Warren who commands the Sea Fencibles at New Quay took charge of the prisoners and marched them to Truro prison . He believes the Susan to be a smuggling cutter.
