He requested by letter to Mr Grenville, then 1st Lord of the Admiralty, a short leave of absence to resetablish his health in his native air. This was supported by a letter from Lord Collingwood with a veiw to his returning to the command of HMS Queen on the recovery of his health. By letter of 17 April [1807] which he received on 12 June [1807] he was told that it had been decided to appoint another Captain to HMS Queen and that his claim to another ship would have their Lordships' future consideration. He earnestly requests that when he recovers his health he will be appointed to such a situation as his 43 years of service and his high standing in the list entitle him to. He means to proceed to Dawlish near Teignmouth, Devon where he hopes his health will soon be restored. He hopes to receive an acknowlegment before he leaves Portsmouth.
