Description

Folios 342-343: Charles Pelly, HMS Mercury, Spithead. He is sending a journal of his proceedings [not present] since he sailed from Spithead to the present date, and a list of the convoy that received instructions at Spithead and Yarmouth [not present]. The William store ship for Bermudas parted her cable after unmooring in Yarmouth Roads and asked permission to keep under weigh but instead of waiting for the convoy was not to be found and has not since joined company. Describes waiting off Torbay and proceeding off Falmouth where he was joined by HMS Speedy who had not found any trade there awaiting convoy. He waited off there to give the Williiam a chance to rejoin to no avail. The convoy were driven almost out of sight past the Lizard so he had to join them without delay. He parted from them on 5 April [1807] leaving them in charge of HMS Speedy. The Eliza brig, Master R Fitzgerald, parted company in the night of 28 March [1807] apparently intentionally. He proceeded to Bermuda and delivered the dispatches to Vice Admiral Berkelely on 29 April [1807] and sailed on 6 May having received his commands and returned without incident. Encloses the defects of the ship.

Folio 344: enclosure with folios 342-343. List dated 29 May 1807 of defects of HMS Mercury signed by Charles Pelly, Captain, William Thomspon, Master and William Middleton, Carpenter,
