Description

Folios 339-340: Charles Pelly, HMS Mercury, Nore. Encloses a petition from John Walton, a Quarter Master on board HMS Mercury, stating his services and requesting promotion to Gunner. Recommends him.

Folios 341-341A: enclosure with folios 339-340. Petition dated 6 March 1807 from John Walton, HMS Mercury, to Captain C Pelly, HMS Mercury. He has served 13 years 6 months as a Petty Officer except for 4 years 6 months as an Able Seaman. Gives dates of service between December 1783 and March 1807 on board HMS Eagle, HMS Lowestoft, HMS Courageux, HMS Ville de Paris and HMS Mercury, naming 8 Captains. He has certificates of good conduct from Captains Grey, Hallowel and Rickets. He hopes their Lordships will promote him to Gunner.
