Folios 232-233: Joseph Pearce, HMS Vulture, Humber. States the case of James Wheat, alias Robert Forster, sent to HMS Vulture from HMS Zealand on 25 [August 1807] as an Ordinary Seaman, Volunteer. He says he has been 6 months at sea in the Mary & Elizabeth of Hull on a voyage to the Greenland fishery and was impressed at Lerwick in Shetland by HMS Kite. He says he was born at Sheffield and is 19, but he believes he is older and that assuming he is the person stated in Luccock's letter, he has no intention of serving the remainder of his apprenticheship.
Folios 234-235: enclosure with folios 232-233. Letter dated 17 September 1807 from William Luccock, Hull, to the Admiralty. Claims his apprentice James Wheat, who has 3 years left on his apprenticeship. He ran away and sailed in the Mary and Elizabeth, William Wray Master, under the name of Robert Foster and was subsequently impressed. He is on board HMS Vulture whose Captain says he cannot release him without an Admiralty order. Note dated 17 September 1807 from R W Moxon, Mayor, stating that he believes the petition is a correct statement of facts.
