Folios 226-227: Joseph Pearce, HMS Vulture, Humber. States the case of Thomas Youll, pressed from the Fame of Hull on her return from a voyage to St Petersburg. He is 39, states that he was brought up as servant. He had no Protection. His claim to be a groom was thought to be a way of avoiding HM service. He is of the opinion he had not been to sea before.
Folios 228-229: enclosure with folios 226-227. Letter dated 15 September 1807 from Robert Galland, Attorney, Hull, to the Admiralty. Joseph Smith of Market Weighton in Yorkshire has applied to him to ask for the release of Thomas Youll, a Landsman impressed out of the Fame, Captain Ruston, from St Petersburg to Hull by HMS Vulture. He was in the service of Mr Smith as a groom who has for many years exported horses from England to Russia and Thomas Youll was returning home and has never been at sea except in the capacity of a groom.
