Folios 164-165: Charles Frederick Payne, HMS Adelphi, Malta Harbour. Fearing his letter of August might not have arrived he takes the opportunity of HMS Aurora going to England to repeat that the owners have not complied with orders to put the ship on the establishment of a hired armed ship. He was promised removal into an active sloop on his arrival in that country . Nearly 12 months have elapsed in such a small vessel with bad accommodation. Asks to be recommended to Lord Collingwood for removal to a sloop of war. Lieutenant Robinson of the Marine artillery was sent on board with 4 Laboratory men from Woolwich and has charge of the rockets and stores at the request of Mr Conmgreve the inventor of them.
