Description

Folios 340-341: George Parker, HMS Stately, Off Texel. He has received a demand from William Hoskins for £50 as compensation for the detention of James Wallace who impressed on 13 May 1805 under orders to impress from all protections and was detained until July 6. Rear Admiral Rowley made it impossible to discharge him after Parker had heard his case on19 May 1805 without direct orders. He has been issued with a writ of Habeas Corpus. He did not detain James Wallace illegally as he was ordered to impress and keep him. He wants the Admiralty to pay or use their solicitor to help.

Folios 342-343: enclosure with folios 340-341. Letter dated 19 May 1805 by George Parker, HMS Stately, Gravesend. to John Barrow. He asks about the impressment of James Wallace whose indenture was lacking a stamp.

Folios 344-345: enclosure with folios 342-343. Letter dated 14 September 1805. William Hoskins, 18 Jury Street London to George Parker. He is directed by Thomas Scott, Master of James Wallace who was illegally detained for four months, to pay £50 compensation.
