Description

Folios 194-195: Home Riggs Popham, London. Advises that having built a launch for HM Romney which he used to save the lives of 400 troops of the 80th Regiment from the Calcutta Transport in the Red Sea, he was induced to build a model of another boat, which has now been built by a Boat Builder at Dover. Advises that it is much admired by those Captains and others that have seen it. Following a letter from the Commissioners of the Navy as enclosed he asks that this boat is purchased and furnished to HMS Diadem to replace the old established launch and to report back on her properties and qualities compared with other launches in service.

Folio 196: enclosed with folios 194-195. Letter dated 13 February 1805 by Commissioners Henry Duncan, J Henslow, Harry Harmood, Navy Office to Captain Sir Home Popham, York Place. Responds to a letter about a long boat for HMS Diadem, similar to that built for HMS Romney when in India and advises he must take the boats which are provided unless the Lords of the Admiralty give orders to the contrary.
