Folios 162-163: Richard Poulden, Regulating Officer, Whitby Rendezvous. Advises that Robert Codling was impressed because he had been in the Coasting Trade in the service of Mr. Fishwick prior to 1803 and in that year he went to Greenland in the Volunteer and has since been bound as an Apprentice to Mr. Barry. Advises he was regularly surveyed by Mr. Robinson, Surgeon and was found fit for the King's Service and on enquiry could not find any Surgeon in the town by the name of Edward Nicholson. Advises he was impressed out of the Volunteer by HMS L'amaranthe and has deserted from that ship.
Folio 164: enclosed with folios 162-163. Petition dated 6 March 1805 by George Codling to the Admiralty. Petitions that Robert Codling who was impressed by Captain Poulden's Gang, is not fit for a seafaring life and is bound Apprentice with John Barry, Ship Builder, Whitby. Also confirms that he sailed in HMS Tryal Captain John Holley for the Humber on 5 March 1805. Petition supported and witnessed by Edward Nicholson, Surgeon, John Barry, Ship Builder and Samuel Thompson.
