Folios 228-229: William Allen Proby, HMS Amelia, Woolwich. Reply to letter dated 26 March 1804 enclosing a copy of an anonymous letter addressed to the Admiralty , which purports to be a letter of the Company of HMS Amelia, communicating to him their Lordships directions to state the circumstances to which the letter alludes. States as the letter mentions no specific fact or charge it is impossible for him to state, as it is impossible for him to know, the circumstances to which it alludes, But he thought it a justice due to the Ship's Company, and to himself, to give them an opportunity, if they or any of them thought themselves aggrieved, to bring forward their complaints. He assembled the crew, read out the letter to them and requested their dissatisfactions. The letter was unanimously disowned and he heard no complaint.
