Folios 216-217: William Allen Proby, HMS Amelia, off Flushing. Covering letter for the enclosed [not present] protection sent to him by Rear Admiral Bartholomew Samuel Rowley for John Mcelroy an American Seaman. There is no one of that name on HMS Amelia but there is a John Michael Roy whose person answers the description in the Certificate, he was pressed from an English South Seaman off Doon. He sent the protections produced by Henderson & Balston to Rear Admiral Bartholomew Samuel Rowley on 3 October 1803 and again on the [?] January 1804. The description contained therein do not answer to the persons in this ship, He knows of no such man as Joseph Sunderland.
