Folios 384-385: William Pierrepont, Liverpool. Replying to Admiralty letter of 21 October states that the pikes sent from Chester Castle for use by the Sea Fencibles are unfit for use. Almost without exception they are rotten, made from American ash which is not as good as the ash from this country.
