Description

Folios 226-227: Robert Paul, HMS Explosion, Nore. Replying to Admiral Rowley's directions dated 10 September and 17 August states that: John Thomas is about 20 years old and has been at sea some years and perfectly capable of serving on any of HM ships, and Thomas Hill is about 18 years old and served in merchant ships for 3 years and 8 months. He voluntarily entered, received the bounty and two months advance.

Folios 228-229: enclosure with folios 226-227. Petition of John Thomas owner of the John of Kidwelly states that on 2 August someone from HMS Explosion, lying in Gallions Reach but now in the Wallet, boarded and impressed John Thomas junior. States that John Thomas had not been to sea before the date of the enclosed Indenture(not with letter) and therefore not liable to being impressed. Requests his discharge.

Folios 230-231: enclosure with folios 226-227. Petition of John Estill, Master of the Providence of Scarborough states that on 24 July someone from HMS Explosion boarded and impressed George Hill. States that George Hill was born on 9 December 1785 as will be seen from enclosed Birth Certificate (not with letter) and will not be 18 until December next and therefore not liable to being impressed. Requests his discharge.
