Description

Folios 217-218: Robert Paul, HMS Explosion, Downs. At the request of Admiral Rowley confirms that Thomas Forster is perfectly capable of doing his duty on any ship, he is not infirm. The Certificate of Age signed by Admiral Man, was some years ago, but does not think good enough to keep him out of the service at a time seaman of his description are so needed. Hopes his retention of him until further orders will be approved.

Folios 219-220: enclosure with folios 217-218. Document signed by John Jackson, Shadwell dated 1 September 1803. States has repeaedtly requestd from Admirmal Rowley information about the release of: William Hodgson - apprentice on Amethyst and Thomas Forster - old man over age and infirm on Explosion.

Folios 221-223: enclosure with folios 217-218. Petition of Richard Bonner, Master of the Adventure belonging to the Port of London on the Coal Trade. States the Adventure was in Woolwich Reach on passage to Shields when Officer on the Explosion boarded and impressed Thomas Forster, aged 58. When he was impressed had in his possession an Over Age Protection granted by Admiralty Board dated 29 January 1801. Requests Order for his release being aged and infirm.
