Description

Folios 259-260: Charles Dudley Pater, HMS Shannon, Yarmouth Roads. States having been informed by his agent in Town that nothing can be done in reimbursing him in the expense incurred in bringing over Lord Carysfort's [John Proby, 1st Earl of Carysfort] Family until he has replied to your letter of 7 December 1801. He encloses a copy of the answer he sent to that letter by return, and which he concludes never came to your hand.

Folios 261-262: enclosure with folios 259-260. Letter dated 9 December 1801 by Charles Dudley Pater, HMS Shannon, Yarmouth Roads, to the Admiralty. Reply to letter dated 7 December 1801 and as directed he informs that Lord Carysfort's [John Proby, 1st Earl of Carysfort] Family and Suite consisted of twelve persons in all, as per the enclosed list, they came on board early in the morning and (from a very good passage) were landed about 6 O'clock in the evening on the third day.
