Folios 218-219: Charles Dudley Pater, HMS Shannon, Yarmouth Roads. Covering letter for the enclosed order from Vice Admiral Charles Morice Pole also a copy of a letter from him to Vice Admiral Charles Morice Pole, acquainting him of his arrival this day in HMS Shannon at Yarmouth, and giving a statement of a Convoy under the protection of HMS Inspector having sailed from Elseneur early on the day his time expired, which included all our trade, and as the service was performed by another ship, he considered it highly expedient, under the circumstances that not ant time should be lost in his return to England.
Folios 220-221: enclosure with folios 218-219. Letter dated 2 August 1801 by Charles Dudley Pater, HMS Shannon, Yarmouth Roads, to Vice Admiral Charles Morice Pole. Acquaints him of his arrival at this place in HMS Shannon and that in compliance with his order dated 21 September 1801 he took under his Command HMS Fox Cutter and HMS Ready Gun Brig, which he fell in with in his way from Rostock to Elseneur, where he arrived on 23 September 1801 and found HMS Inspector with orders from Admiral Archibald Collingwood Dickson dated 30 June 1801 to wait 24 hours after the wind came faire and then to sail with all the trade etc. bound to England from that place; the Convoy had been regulated and received their instructions previous to his arrival, the signal then being made for them to prepare to sail ;- He therefore considered it his duty under those circumstances, to offer Captain Bromley all the assistance in his power, who said the only aid he wanted was that of a small Vessel to attend the Convoy, he therefore directed the Lieutenants Commanding HMS Fox - Cutter [Lieutenant Joseph Hoy?] and HMS Ready - Gun Brig [Lieutenant Thomas Swinnerton Dyer?]. [Further details of the voyage].
Folio 222: enclosure with folios 218-219:. Orders dated 21 July 1801 by Vice Admiral Charles Morice Pole. HMS Saint George, at Sea to Charles Dudley Pater, HMS Shannon. Orders to proceed to Elseneur and there remain for three days after the expiration of which time you are to proceed with such ships and Merchant Vessels as may then be ready and willing to accompany you to Yarmouth Roads. In the event of you falling in with HMS Ready - Gun Brig and HMS Fox - Cutter (or either) you are to take them under Command for the protection of the Convoy. You are also required to acquaint all such Men of War you may fall in with who are in pursuit of the Fleet that it hath quitted the Baltic.
