Folios 202-203: Charles Dudley Pater, HMS Shannon, Leith Roads. He acquaints that on 10 March 1801 he received an order from Admiral Sir Hyde Parker to put himself under his command & to complete our Provisions for 3 months also to join him at Yarmouth with all the Gun Vessels from this Port. He sent those vessels instantly with HMS L' Jalouse, not being able to proceed with HMS Shannon, having near forty of our best men at that time in Prizes, as well as being short of Complement;- HMS Shannon is now ready for Sea, and as Admiral Sir Hyde Parker has sailed suddenly without his having any orders since his departure. He requests directions for his future guidance, especially as much time may be lost in going to Yarmouth Roads, should the wind keep to the Southward.
