Folios 246-247: Peter Puget, HMS Tromp, Spithead. Encloses a letter from George Campbell, Surgeon, concerning Lieutenant James Murphy. He hopes another Officer will be appointed in his place when he goes to the hospital. If they are ordered to sea with soldiers or to carry prisoners they will need the full complement of Lieutenants and there is no chance that Lieutenant Murphy can return to duty for some considerable time.
Folios 248-249: enclosure with folios 246-247. Letter dated 17 March 1799 from George Campbell, Surgeon, HMS Tromp, Spithead, to Captain Puget, HMS Tromp, Spithead. Lieutenant James Murphy has had epileptic fits since he was appointed to HMS Tromp. He says it is hereditary, both parents having suffered from the same complaint. He believes he is not a fit Officer for active service.
