Description

Folio 195: Charles Dudley Pater, HMS Porcupine, Milford. Reports his arrival here today with HMS Tartar as per the enclosed order from Vice Admiral Robert Kingsmill to look into this Port for the Transports which parted company from us on the 8 August 1797. [Reports on the weather and the problems] The Transports are not here he has heard a report that some of them may be at Waterford. He encloses a copy of his report to Vice Admiral Robert Kingsmill on the Transports having quitted the Convoy after having sailed from Cork.

Folio 196: enclosure with folio 195. Orders dated 11 August 1797 by Vice Admiral Robert Kingsmill, HMS LE, Cork Harbour, to Charles Dudley Pater, HMS Porcupine. Orders to look, with HMS Tartar for the Transports between Cork and Milford. If none are found to look off Waterford.

Folios 197-198: enclosure with folio 195. Report dated 11 August 1797 by Charles Dudley Pater, HMS Porcupine, Cork Harbour, to Vice Admiral Robert Kingsmill. Reports on the Convoy as per the Admiralty Order dated 14 June 1797. [Total of two plus sides] Names the Convoy. Transports:- Fanny, Betsey, Scarboro, Barton & Elizabeth. Trade:- Henton - Brig, Eagle - Ship & Hoyden - Schooner. Joined off the Harbour James of London - Brig. The Pigon an American Ship who requested our Protection. In all 11 Sail.
