Description

Folios 352-355: Edward Pellew, HMS La Nymphe, Falmouth. Reports in detail on his reconnaissance of Brest, his escape from a French squadron which chased him off that port and his capture of the French sloop L'Espiegle commanded by Ensign de Vaissaux Pierre Biller. Ensign Viller reports that L'Espiegle was part of the French squadron which sailed from Brest on 16 November and fell in with Admiral Earl Howe's fleet two days later, includes a partial account of that action. Mentions Monsieur Joyeuse, in command at Brest, Captain Stephen Colby, Captain Joseph Sydney Yorke, Monsieur Wanstabel, HMS Thames and the French ships La Blonde,Le Tygre, La Impeteuex, L'Aquilon, La Tourville, La Revolution, La Jean Bart, La Semillante, L'Insurgente, La Ballon, La Carmagnol, L'Uranie, Stockholm, Toulon, Scilly, Portsmouth.

Folio 356: enclosed with folios 352-355. Captain Sir Edward Pellew. List, not dated, but headed "List of both squadrons" including HMS Flora, Captain Sir John Borlase Warren, HMS Melamplus, Captain Thomas Wells, HMS Arethusa, Captain Pellew, HMS La Nymphe, Captain George Murray, and HMS Concorde, Captain Sir Richard John Strachan, and four French vessels, L'Engageante, La Resolue, La Pomone and La Babet.
