Description

Folios 282-283: Commodore Sir Edward William Campbell Rich Owen, HMS Saint Lawrence, Kingston. Covering letter for the enclosed letter left by Sir James Lucas Yeo KB., from the then Acting Commander of HMS Charwell for a Court Martial on the Gunner of that Sloop. The man having been left under an arrest without the means of forming a Court Martial for his trial. He had thought it right to discharge and send him home.

Folios 284-285: enclosure with folios 282-283. Letter dated 23 June 1815 by Commodore Sir Edward William Campbell Rich Owen, HMS Saint Lawrence, Kingston, to the Admiralty. Covering letter for the enclosed (which was left by Commodore Sir James Lucas Yeo) from the then Acting Commander of HMS Charwell for a Court Martial on the Gunner of that sloop. The man having been left under an arrest without the means of forming a Court Martial for his trial. He had thought it right to discharge and send him home and have to add that his conduct has been reported unfavourably of to him during the time he has been detained on board HMS Saint Lawrence.

Folios 286-286A: enclosure with folios 282-283. Letter dated 20 October 1814 by Henry F Spence, HMS Charwell ,[HMS Moira], Niagara, to Sir James Lucas Yeo KB, States the consequence of the repeated drunkenness of Mr Thomas Williams Gunner of HMS Charwell particullarly on the 28 September 1814 and for his mutinious and disrespectful conduct to him that day. He requests a Court Martial.
