Description

Folios 261-262: Commodore Sir Edward William Campbell Rich Owen, HMS Saint Lawrence, Kingston. Covering letter for the enclosed letter from Captain Henry Thomas Davies of HMS Prince Regent stating that she had been aground. It does not appear to him that any blame attaches.

Folios 263-264: enclosure with folios 261-262. Letter dated 5 June 1815 by Henry Thomas Davies, HMS Prince Regent, Kingston to Commodore Sir Edward William Campbell Rich Owen, HMS Saint Lawrence, Kingston. States Colonel Myers having by desire of Sir George Murray, requested the assistance of the Squadron to bring down the 90th Regiment. He sailed on 28 May 1815 with HMS Psyche and HMS Niagara for that purpose. He ran through the Gap to turn up the Bay of Guinite and at about 2 o'clock HMS Prince Regent grounded. The Pilot was deceived by the depth of Water near the Shoal. There appears to be no damage. In consequence of further applications he sailed first to Ernell Town to embark the Glengary Light Infantry, carry them yo York, from there he will take the Canadian Fencibles to Fort George, then bringing down the 6th Regiment to Kingston. HMS Psyche will sail at the same time and take on baord part of the 82nd and HMS Montreal and HMS Niagara will be able to bring the rest.

Folios 265-269A: enclosure with folios 261-262. Copy of HMS Prince Regent's ship's log from 28 May 1815 to 3 June 1815.
