Folios 241-243: Commodore Sir Edward William Campbell Rich Owen, HMS Saint Lawrence, Kingston. Finding on his return on 10 June 1815 a letter from Acting Captain Allen Otty of HMS Star together with one which had been addressed to Captain Charles Frederick Payne (Senior Officer here) by the Gunner of HMS Star, (copies of both enclosed); He has lost no time in proceeding on board her to make enquiry into the circumstances set forth; and he informs that after a careful investigation it is his opinion that the disorderly conduct of the crew (which had been in a state of continious intoxication form two days) and the iregularity of Mr Richard Davies the Gunner, together with the circumstance of the Carpenter having deserted on that morning with three other men to the American side, was sufficient to give rise to a surpicion that it was the intention of the Gunner likewise to desert, with others of the crew, although no actual proof could be obtained of such intention. It further appears to him that the greater part of the Petty Officers had been wanting in their duty and have not by their own example and good conduct endeavoured to check existence of groundless discontent which has existed in the crew and led to much desertion, or make it known to their superiors. He has therefore orderd Acting Captian Allen Otty to discharge the Gunner Richard Davies and the following men:- Daniel Donovan, John Davies, Edward Reeves, Daniel Freeland, Marshal Smart, Thomas Doling & Ralph Simkins to HMS Saint Lawrence.
