Folios 218-219: Commodore Sir Edward William Campbell Rich Owen, [HMS] Montreal. States since his letter No 12, he finds that Lieutenant John Hornby was Acting Lieutenant of HMS Confiance when he was taken upon Lake Champlain. He has returned to Isle aux Noix [Île aux Noix] with other Officers and Men made prisoners upon the same occasion whom it is his intention to send home by the earliest opportunity. and under the circumstances, he has thought it right to keep back the Commission until after the Court Martial. He encloses the Commission [not present] and have directed Lieutenant John Hornby to apply in England.
