Description

Folios 227-228: James O'Bryen, Plymouth Dock. Becuase of how long it takes for the post in Ireland to go from one town to another, he did not received the letter about his appointment fo HMS Warspite until after he left his brother's house. HMS Warspite is according to Captain Blackwood a good sailor, but weakly manned. He highly recommends the present 1st Lieutenant Mr McPherson and he would like him to continue in the ship. He has written to Lord Henry Poulett concerning this.

Folios 229-230: enclosure with folios 227-228. Letter dated 7 November 1813 from James O'Bryen, Plymouth Dock, to Lord Henry [Poulett]. Today he joined HMS Warspite and found from Captain Blackwood that there is some objection to the present Acting 1st Lieutenant remaining as such. Makes the case for the LIeutnent remaining. There is a vacancy for another Lieutenant and John Robert Jones, late of HMS Sultan, who has been discharged from the Hospital, is recommended. [Folowed by] Letter from Henry Blackwood to Lord Henry [Poulett]. He believes it woudl benefit the service if he agrees to continue John McPherson as 1st Lieutenant .
