Description

Folios 234-235: Robert O'Brien, Regulating Captain, Limerick. As instructed has visited the harbours mentioned in the margin attended by HMS Landrail. Having communicated the Admiralty's intentions to the Magistrates and persons concerned at each place left with them a copy of the enclosed document. Left with the Landrail to prevent alarm which appeared very general until they had exsplained to the boatmen the Admiralty intentions. This was essential as at Bantry on mention of the Impress all boatmen fled. On return to Limerick had eleven men and ordered the Landrailto take them to Cork. When delivered to the order of Vice Admiral Thornbrough to meet him at Galway,as there is a harbour on the coast of Clare. Has spoken with the Mayor and Magistrates of Limerick individually and a day has been arranged to meet together to consider his communication to them, after which will go to Galway. Encloses List of the new men raised and set to Cork by the Landrail.

Folio 236: enclosure with folios 234-235. Printed document titled "By directions of the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty" setting out the Impress system and that they require one in six of those employed in boats and vessels on that part of the coast together with other terms and conditions. States that Captain O'Brien is the Regulating Officer on the Service and is dated 27 April 1812.

Folio 237: enclosure with folios 234-235. List of men and boys raised at Limerick and sent on Cutter Landrail, Lieutenant W. H. Haswell for conveyance to Cork. Daniel Kennelly, John Killeen, Daniel McGill, John Humphrys, Daniel Curreen, Allan Carmichael, Dugal Wilky, Robert Johnson, John Davis, Thomas Crosbie and John Neill.
