Folios 439-440: Edward William Campbell Rich Owen, HMS Clyde, the Downs. When he was appointed to command the Boulogne squadron, he thought it advisable to have a complete survey of the station and employed John Tapper during the summer of 1806 when ships could be spaced to attend. The Captain did not communicate the information because he was absent during June and July and on returning in August, found the number of cruisers much reduced due to the enemy's Privateers. He hopes to resume the survey. Mr. Tapper has completed the survey of the [RyeDay?] where the Admiralty fleet was deficient and the name and Ridge of the French coast between Calais and Etaples. The latter is happy to communicate his observations to the appropriate person the Admiralty designates and it appears this would be better to be communicated in person.
