Folios 402-403: Edward William Campbell Rich Owen, HMS Clyde, the Downs. In response to Mr. [Barrow's ?] letter, three of Mr. S. [Huffam's?] men namely [J. Atkinioz?, R. Snipe and J. Deny?]were impressed from a Gravesend boat and detained on HMS Zealand. Encloses the order for their discharge to Rear Admital Wells and papers relating to Messrs Read and Gifford on board HMS Zealand and reasons for their detention, should they be added to the Statement of the Commanding Officer of the Zealand. The morning after the imprest, the pressed men had the opportunity to produce a protection document, but none were offered. All that were unfit or had legal protection were discharged.
